The group is greater than the sum of its parts. Each group has a unique relational field that is influenced by the history and desires of the individuals, the dynamic environment, and the intention(s) of the gathering. The more adept each individual is with nervous system regulation, the better the group becomes at problem solving, co-creating, and remaining in discomfort long enough for something new and exciting to emerge.

Are you looking for a facilitator to support with personal development at your work? Are you a coach looking for support for your young athletes? Are you in a corporate office seeking mental health initiatives for your staff? A teacher wanting to incorporate yoga and breathwork into the curriculum? Or, perhaps an event organizer looking for a keynote speaker? I would love to connect.

Below are summaries of some past group offerings I have facilitated:

  • Breathwork Wellness Series at your Home

Learning and practicing together in your own community and/or friend group is a great way to enhance your understanding of breathwork and the intricate connection to mental/physical health. This is a 1-4 part series that you can host at your home as an offering of wellness to your small group. Each session is 90 minutes and includes a booklet with information covered and steps for daily practice to learn the art of better breathing.

  • Adolescent sports/athletic teams

As a former elite athlete, I easily connect and empathize with the plight of young athletes. The performance anxiety, the negative self-talk, the struggle with letting go of a “poor performance,” the desire to be the best while sustaining a busy and intense schedule, the comparison and competition, and the pressure we feel internally and externally.

What I wish I had access to when I was an adolescent was a deeper understanding of how powerful and transformative it is to be a master of my own breathing. Many athletes (myself included) have a common experience of ADD/ADHD symptoms or diagnoses, and this leads to chronic over-breathing. The unconscious habit of over-breathing is highly detrimental to our health and accumulates as poor focus, anxiety, asthma, fatigue, insomnia, and worsening mental health afflictions as fitness, physical health, and performance deteriorate.

“How we breathe determines the levels of carbon dioxide present in our blood. When we breathe correctly, we have a sufficient amount of carbon dioxide, and our breathing is quiet, controlled, and rhythmic. If we are overbreathing, our breathing is heavy, more intense, and erratic, and we exhale too much carbon dioxide, leaving our body literally gasping for oxygen.” Patrick McKeown, The Oxygen Advantage

Whether in a single workshop or a series of sessions, I will teach and inspire your athletes to embody the power in their breath. Through simple practices they can use daily, before, during and after competition, your athletes will learn how to increase the number of red blood cells in their body, which translates into physical, mental and emotional strength training. Among such benefits, your athletes will immediately notice improved oxygen delivery to the muscles, a reduction of lactic acid buildup, and stronger overall performance, including longer endurance and a lower risk of inflammation and injury.

“It has been said that one of the main differences between endurance athletes and nonathletes is their response to low pressures of oxygen (hypoxia) and higher levels of carbon dioxide (hypercapnia). In other words, endurance athletes are able to tolerate a greater concentration of carbon dioxide and lower concentration of oxygen in the blood during exercise. Intense physical exercise results in increased consumption of oxygen and increased production of carbon dioxide, so it is vitally important that athletes are able to cope well with changes to these gases.

A performance-related term you need to know is maximal oxygen uptake, or VO2 max. This simply refers to the maximum capacity of your body to transport and utilize oxygen in 1 minute during maximal or exhaustive exercise...The goal of most endurance programs is to increase VO2 max.” - Patrick McKeown, The Oxygen Advantage

While many athletes may already be aware of the importance of increasing VO2 max (i.e. maximum capacity of your body to transport and utilize oxygen in 1 minute during maximal exercise), the lesser known aspect of this tenable conquest is the far-reaching positive effects it has on our overall well-being.

  • Keynote Speaker

I am honored to have the opportunity to share my story and guide a group into a deeper connection with themselves and with each other. Every time I facilitate or speak, I curate my message to be uniquely in tune with the audience. I share vulnerable parts of my story as examples of mental health struggles and what I learned and practiced to overcome and find my voice, my strength, and my purpose in life.

I have had the privilege and honor to keynote at Fairmont Lake Louise Wellness Fair, Thrive Health and Wellness Festival in Canmore, at Shell Canada for their HR team, Lunch and Learns at the Glencoe, the yyc administration professional gathering, and Bishop Carroll High School’s Wellness Summit. I have also been a part of several dozen expert panels to discuss mental health, entrepreneurship, and growth through failure.

I would love to connect regarding keynote opportunities and what you truly desire for the group you are so lovingly creating an experience for.

Testimonials:

“From our first conversation about a corporate wellness program Marin was extremely engaged and receptive to the needs of our company and the staff. She came up with a 4-session lunch and learn series on The Four Pillars of Stress Resiliency. She hit the nail on the head exactly with this topic. Everything she addressed and talked about resonated with our employees and I believe most of the attendees of the sessions have been able to walk away with a better understanding of their mind-body connection and have some new skills to utilize on a day to day basis.

These sessions helped us show our employees that we as a company care about them and take mental health seriously. We have received great feedback from our employees so far.”

- J, Grant Thornton

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have participated in all of Marin’s sessions. She’s a great presenter and has provided a ton of useful information for daily life. While they are not ‘typical’ lunch and learns for this industry, I think it’s wonderful that the company has supported the mental health of the staff with sessions like these.” - H, Paramount Resources

“Thank you, Marin, for coming in with ideas, a plan and execution for our corporate wellness program. I would recommend any company to use Marin as part of their corporate wellness program.” - T, Shell Canada Ltd
