Welcome to your 30 day challenge! Each week we will build our understanding and practice of the ancient principles the Yamas and Niyamas by being in contemplation and deliberate action. The purpose is not perfection, rather it is to develop our ability to see every moment as practice for the next moment.
To create a solid foundation for this challenge, please read through my blog post that describes the yamas and niyamas, and details where they come from and their greater purpose, here.
Here is a brief recap of the concepts we focus on in this challenge....
Yamas – Our FOUR Principles (under the umbrella of Non-Violence and Benevolence)
The high-level purpose and intention of the yamas is one that produces non-violence while also actively engaging with compassion and benevolence. There is no perfect balance here, it is a give and take, push and pull, inhale and exhale, as you play with these ways of showing up in the world.
Niyamas – Our FOUR concepts to Practice (under the umbrella of Self-Discipline and Effort & Surrender)
The nature of being in practice requires a commitment of self-discipline. Growth happens when we put in the work by being self-motivated and internally-directed.
Our goal is to understand these concepts collectively as we integrate them into our life. It is important to see these as a practice and allow space and time for trial and error. As well, we will further the integration process in conversation and exploration with others.
What to expect:
1. A weekly email, starting on July 1, that will set you up with what you need for the week ahead, including the points detailed below.
2. An open and ongoing conversation with Marin to support and answer your questions as you move through this challenge
3. Reflection questions to ponder daily, nightly, or just at the start or end of the week (your choice in how much you want to engage on a daily basis)
4. A prompt for a specific style of yoga or meditation to engage in every day, or as often as you can in the week
5. A morning routine that involves setting your Intention for the day (pulling insights and concepts from the Yamas and Niyamas)
What you need to get started:
· a notebook and pen
· a schedule for the next 30 days to write out your reminders (when to check email, when to be in reflection and inquiry and when to just be in the practice of living with intention)
Want more information? Send me an email with your questions. Otherwise, send me an etransfer for $31.50 and join me for this month long exploration!
"Real change requires a combination of Being and Doing. Being, which represents the path of the spiritual seeker, stems from ending our inner wars, freeing ourselves from the judgments and limitations of the ego, radiating love, and being the change we wish to see in the world. It's about ending the story of separation and inviting those who participate in the system to make kind, compassionate choices, trusting that real change starts with accepting the world as it is, seeing perfection in it, and then practicing love as an invitation to others to step into their higher selves.
But Being without Doing risks keeping love in a theoretical realm, a safe realm where it isn't tested and developed by encounters with the world. Moreover, we are not separate beings. To exist is to relate. Sooner or later, this state of peaceful Being naturally leads to Doing, stemming not from righteousness or moral outrage but from love." Lissa Rankin

Marin is one of those mystical humans that walks through life healing everyone she interacts with. An everyday conversation with her is like a warm hug, a therapy session, and life coaching all at once.
She embodies the ethos that you have to know failure in order to succeed, and it is clear that she has taken all of the struggles in life that she has gone through to build tools and tricks for herself to make the best of every day. Even better, Marin's life is now dedicated to sharing those learnings with the world.
Even before she began formally sharing her wisdom through coaching and writing, Marin was running goal-setting workshops like a boss. I was a (somewhat skeptical) participant in one of those early goal-coaching sessions. At the time, while I struggled to fill in blanks about where I wanted to be three, five, and 10 years down the road, neither Marin or I knew that she would be extracting from me predictions of where my life would take me.
Years later, it was a pleasure to reflect on that session and sit down with her book; it was as though it was meant for me in the exact moment that I was reading it.
At the same time, part way through I had the impression that she didn't write the book for me, but rather for herself. In fact, she says so explicitly later in the book, sharing that writing was a cathartic release and a documentation of her journey. She has written to inspire, rather than instruct, and her purpose came across beautifully.
Marin tells her story in a way that is deeply personal, but still allows others to see parallels to their own experiences. Whether someone is struggling with mental illness, or through a period of failure, or supporting a friend or family member, Marin's story is invaluable.
My biggest insights from Marin's story are:
Marin's story captures that life is about constantly failing, forgiving yourself, and trying to be better.

at LIV yoga + Wellness (110 - 840 6 Ave SW)
with Marin McCue
Date: Saturday, April 8
Time: 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Yoga is so much more than a series of poses leading up to savasana. Behind this ancient art is wisdom of how to live life by conserving and creating energy along your path to purpose. There are 5 Yamas and 5 Niyamas, which create a unique formula and path of discovery. They are simple concepts that carry intuitive knowing. They do not prescribe to tell you how to live, but rather, how to tap into your unique power and expressly live the life you were meant to live. What are they? What are they not? How can we use this simple structure to capture the complexity of being human while sustaining simplicity for our monkey minds?

I am thrilled to announce the next phase of this Mind-Body Movement project that I started in early 2016.
This workshop has shifted and evolved into something that will change the way you think, see, and feel. Come for one hour of yoga, as we get our body moving and lay the foundation for the personal development work ahead.
Once we have built up heat and let go of distractions and "noise" in our savasana, we will pull out our journals and get to work.
This workshop is for those who want to learn new language and perspective in how to handle set-backs and how to change your relationship with Fear. Once you are living a life where you do not get in your own way and you are not wasting energy on anxiety, fears, what-ifs, limiting beliefs, expectations, and negative self-talk, you will have space, time, and energy to focus on what truly lights you up. So the final phase of this workshop is all about passion, creativity, and embracing the gifts you have to leave an impact and legacy in this world.
Come curious and open to conversation and movement, and you will leave full and energized, with tools and goals to stay motivated and coach yourself through the tough moments in life.
Expect soul-fueling music, body-fueling snacks, and brain-fueling drink. Reserve your spot early as space is limited. Reach out to me with questions, email@example.com <3
